AOA is a world-class high-school in Rwanda, training the top Math talent on the continent.
The Context
-
Africa has a vast pool of talented young students interested in Math & Science. However, systemic barriers like inadequate resources, teacher shortages, and outdated curricula prevent many students from accessing meaningful higher education and career opportunities.
-
A nurturing environment is essential for students to thrive. Factors like access to resources, mentorship, opportunities, and 21st century teaching approaches (e.g., inquiry-based learning, project-based learning) are key to produce stellar talent.
-
Developing talent across Africa isn't just about individual success—it's essential for addressing the continent's challenges. From developing new technologies to building more efficient systems, leveraging local Math & Science expertise can lead to sustainable innovations that address critical issues like climate change & access to quality care
The African Olympiad Academy builds on the success of the Rwanda Mathematics Olympiad (RwMO)—a program which in just five years has established itself amongst the top African countries at international math competitions, and whose graduates have enrolled and been awarded scholarships at prestigious universities globally.
